Preparing Your New Home For Moving Day

You'll probably spend a lot of time getting items in your current home ready for moving day, but there are a few things you should consider doing in your new home before the movers arrive. Use this list to ensure your new home is ready for your move:

Turn On Heat/AC And Appliances

You'll want to make sure your home is comfortable when you begin moving your items in, so it's a good idea to stop by a few hours before and turn on your heat or air conditioning. If the power was only recently turned on in the home, be sure that the refrigerator is plugged in and powered on so it can begin to get cold enough for food. You can place bottles of water in the refrigerator so you and the movers can stay hydrated as you unload and unpack boxes.

Prepare The Bathroom

A few simple preparations in the bathroom will make it ready to use as soon as you and the movers arrive. Place toilet paper in the holder, and add soap and towels to the vanity as well. You may want to go ahead and put down any rugs you have to prevent dirt from being tracked on the floor.

Lay Down Floor Protection

In addition to putting rugs down in the bathroom, you'll want to take a few steps to protect the floors in the rest of the home as well. You can use carpet or plastic sheeting in the hallways and main traffic areas to prevent scratches on hardwood and tile. This will also help to prevent stains on carpeted flooring. Use tape to secure the coverings to the floor so they stay in place throughout the move.

Bring Some Tools

You may need some tools to reassemble furniture, remove doors, and perform other minor tasks during the move, so consider bringing along a toolbox when you arrive to prep the home. A hammer, screwdriver, and pliers are all useful for move-in day. Be sure to have a few box cutters available so you can begin opening boxes and unpacking essential items right away. Remember that you will also need tools at your current home, so invest in extras instead of bringing all of the tools you already own.

Ask your moving company if there are any other preparations you should consider before they arrive at your new home. With a bit of work and some extra preparations, you can make sure that your new home is move-in ready. Contact a company like Redondo Van & Storage for more information and assistance.
